    Default SIA tests/qualifications

I need some new work at the moment and I was seeing that CCTV operators get £10-15 an hour. But then I read you need to get a SIA license and do some tests that only take three days. Funnily enough I see you can also do a course for 250 quid in 'Vehicle Immobilisation'(car clamping) with the SIA. Has anyone ever done this course or know anything about it?

i wouldnt go any where near the car clamping mate the law regarding this is very tricky.

door supervisors can also get upto 15 an hour and the door licence covers everything accept close protection i belive.

if you sign on with a security company they will probally pay all costs for a fixed term of employment or a weekly re payment scheme.

Nah I am 11 stone I don't reckon I would make a very good door supervisor!

I dunno about the clamping. I often feel like swinging with the golf club when I see someone doing it so I don't think I'd feel good if I done it to some poor old dear or someone that couldn't speak English very well.

But the CCTV pays alright, and it sounds much safer than either of those two jobs!

i wouldnt worry about your weight mate its not all about size the best doorman i ever worked with was 10 stone the worst 6 foot 7 and 22 stone he was a shit house.

the cctv is a good way forward you can work cctv in big clubs, shopping centres and for the police on town centre cctv.

Don't forget that it's 245 for your licence BUT
also you have to pay for your training course which is any thing from 230 upwards

Plus, there are effectively 2 SIA licenses (or atleast there were when I did mine last year) one of them only entitles you to be a CCTV operator and the other, which is the "Door Supervisor" one entitles you to be a Door Sup. AND a CCTV operator, aswel as everything inbetween.

Strangely, they're exactly the same price, just make sure you know which one you're going in for.

As for being 11 stone; I'm 11.8 stone and I'm head doorman of a bar in Chorlton in manchester, and apparently I'm the best they've had yet.

That wasn't me bragging, by the way, I was just saying you can be a good door man whatever size you is

The door sia badge is sooo easy to obtain mate..No hard questions and common sense really plus you will know all the answers from the 2 and half day course beforehand...Security is shit money and cctv does look the best paid..One hit in the wrong place and the course and badge are history tho...£255 now i think..

I was going to go for just the standard security SIA licence, but i have zero chance, they want to know what dates i have had of every job since leaving school, i had some jobs for like a week i have no idea what the dates were, all that to be a useless security guard!

    Hope you have more luck.
