In other news, Marc Ratner, the UFC vice president of regulation, believes huge progress has been made for UFC, and indeed MMA, to be sanctioned in New York this year, with prospects of UFC 100 being staged at Madison Square Garden.
There have been suggestions that UFC 100 could feature the re-match of Brock Lesnar, the UFC heavyweight champion, against Frank Mir, who submitted Lesnar in the first round of their first meeting early last year.
Ratner has also revealed that UFC, regulated in the UK by the UK MMA Association could go to the Boxing Board of Control as a regulatory body for UFC events here.
Ratner, once the head of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, a government-run body, said: “We are going to talk to the British Boxing Board of Control about UFC in the UK. We are inviting Robert Smith [Boxing Board of Control General Secretary] to our show at the 02 in London in February and we would love MMA to be regulated by a separate part of the boxing board in the UK. We want to grow the sport and we need a regulatory body over there.”
