When Ghostwatch aired, then didn't tell anyone it was a spoof before hand..... people thought it was real. Anyone with any real sense noticed that the program had a writer.... not typical that kind of program!
Anyway, the ghosts name...... Pipes.
Aye that Wiki page i linked to talked about all that. Seems they shot themselves in the foot though when they plugged it on Going Live. Either way, kids my age at the time (whatever age it was now) weren't to have figured all that out.
There's a story there about some kid who killed himself when his family's heating went kaput and was rattling all the time!
I remember shitting it when me mam sent me to be on Halloween all those years ago!

Unbeknown to us, Ciaran O’Keeffe [the show’s resident sceptic] had suspicions about Derek and decided to plant some information to see if it would be repeated. He left a piece of paper around with the name ‘Kreed Kafer’ on it and said, within earshot of Derek, that he was a nasty South African jailor. When we started filming, Derek decided to get possessed by this fake person. The name is actually an anagram of Derek Faker. We tell people everything is real, then it turns out he was a fake, so he had to go.
I'm just watching 'Ghostwatch' now, I missed it back in 1992
Two things of note so far :-
a) It's got Craig Charles in it
b) The family have named the cupboard under the stairs 'The Glory Hole', it must have had a different meaning back in the 90's
