iirc you can slam but only out of submissions, for example picking somone up while in closed guard and dropping them isn;t allowed. as marcelo didn;t have the RNC then what ricco did was technically a foul. (i think...paging jsho...)

I think slams are ok (spiking is illegal). Watch Braulio's first match at the last ADCC... he gets slammed twice and is not happy about it but the ref lets it go (Braulio then brutally armbars the guy, lol).

The problem with Marcelo/Ricco was the back of Ricco's head hitting Marcelo's face I think? Or it may have just been a sportsmanship call on the part of the ref, bearing in mind it was the absolute division and Marcelo was probably giving up 50kg or more.

Slamming out of subs is fine, slamming from guard is not as david5 said.

Though when Marcelo is on his back it's neither guard nor a sub.

    Interesting discussion point.

The match of Braulio's I was referring to doesn't seem to be on Youtube anymore. I'm pretty sure he didn't have a sub attempt on when the guy slammed though, was just starting to set it up. I may be remembering it wrong though.

Where is J Sho when you need him?!

I'll do my best to stand in on this one. Both times he was setting it up and he was never ACTUALLY slammed. Tomas pushed him off and down, and he hit the floor hard, but he was never hit on the floor with force (apart from gravity), so they let it go. Or so I guess.

Topical fact! I fought Tomas at Britsubfight in the Absolute Beginner Final, six months before he qualified for ADCC!

...and people called me a sandbagger. @_@

    Take care,

To be honest (and this is just on one quick browse through) the first one looked like the guillotine was in and he pushed him down (not slammed) and the second one looked like it was being set up but he slammed him out of it.
