There was an issue over the royalty payments to UK PRS. They wanted stupid money. You Tube told them to fuck off and the rest is history.

who the hell are the PRS.....some org that wants money for being able to play music??
PRS is the Performing Rights Society. Its there job to ensure that when songs by UK artists are played on legal radio, the videos are played on music television stations (including YouTube) or the singles/albums are sold, that they collect the royalties on behalf of the performers.
Radio stations/MTV etc pay a blanket fee per year to be able to play all of that music the year. I would assume that PRS contacted YouTube to negotioate a fee for that. Case in point would be the Rick Astley YouTube prank that went on. That would have earnt him (or at at least Waterman and crew) stupid money.
You might have read a couple of times about PRS people going into companies, like garages, shops etc and telling them that they are in violation by playing music on a business premises and not paying PRS for the right to play music.

this pissed me off the other day
It was on the news a couple of nights ago, they showed a Leona Lewis video and said "if you live in the UK you can now no longer watch this video on youtube, it's been removed" so I went on youtube, watched the video and found hundreds of comments hurling abuse at the BBC for stating you were unable to watch the video.....kept me entertained for a couple of mins lol.
I find it ver hard to believe that they'll remove all the songs, there are hundreds of copies of a lot of songs on youtube and once they've been removed they only takes 2 minutes to re-upload.
they will use keyword matching to block the videos , no doubt people will get some on there with mis spellings etc!
