im also pondering getting it too.

my bro said a guy at his work has it, and it downloads films in about 5-10 mins lol.. thats pretty sick.. my 20meg does it in about 25 mins..

but that alone doesnt tempt me, as I dont download enough to warrent it. and 20meg is more than enough for online gaming.. so I dunno..

Downloads are only going to download as fast as the server/seed/peer you're downloading from allows you.

In my experience when I had 50mb the only difference it really made for me was being able to download MORE things at once whilst playing a game on the internet without anything slowing down/lagging.

Otherwise with my 20mb now, I can still download things just as fast, I've downloaded films in 10 minutes or whatever from torrents and having a 20mb or 50mb isn't going to make a difference because it would be insanely rare to find a torrent that is going to offer you something stupid like 6mb/sec or over.

Basically, 50mb will just give you far more bandwidth and perhaps speed up your download in SOME cases, but to be honest most servers restrict peoples download speed as not to hog all the bandwidth so IMO the only advantage is the fact you can have more downloads going at once with decent speeds.

If you use Usenet to download rather than torrents, then you download at the maximum rate your provider offers you, rather than a share of the cumulative upload speeds of the people hosting the torrent. However, Virgin media have absolutely horrendous caps (on the 20Mb package you're dropped down to something like 150kbs for 4 hours if you download what is meant to be more than 2Gb during peak times, but I've had it happen to me outside of peak times, and for less than 2Gb) so I don't see the benefit of having the extra speed.

I'm not interested in more speed... I'm interested in consistent speed at the advertised fucking rate. Cunts.

    Bumping this thread up

I had 50mb broadband fitted this morning, tested it by downloading Thursdays Ultimate Fighter and it downloaded in exactly 44 seconds including the time to find peers.

My download speed is 50.31mb and upload is 4.65mb

so far i'm really happy, will keep you posted....

Virgin is fucking ridiculous. I am on 20 meg and during the day it doesnt go over 150kbps if im lucky. AS SOON AS IT HITS MIDNIGHT I get average of 2.2MB

I want to download stuff before midnight for fucks sake. This happens regardless if I have downloaded or not. Must be because I have a history of high downloads or something but its really pissing me off atm.
