cos taking chemicals like this on a long term basis is bad for your health that is what i beleive , plus i read an article in my accupuncturists office (NOT A MAINSTREAM ARTICLE I WOULD LIKE TO ADD ) that explained the longer you take it the more your lungs need it and it destroys the cells in your lungs , like you say you prob wont agree and i dont really care if you do , never had asthma , never will have asthma .

Its like allergies , keep on taking tablets for allergies instead of finding out what causes the problem , which in the case of asthma is particles in the air , nopw people can do their utmost to make it worse ( deoderant sprays , shake and vac, diesel fumes ) or they can do the opposite , cutdown on aerosols , try and live dust free and in a less polluted environment. Just like IBS is an allergy to certain foods ( mainly wheat ) I beleieve ashtma is an allergy to particles of matter in the air that piss your lungs off.

Strangely enough I would accept the argument that any drug will ultimately make you more dependent upon it....and I would also agree that people are not generally given enough information about drugs they're prescribed to make an informed decision about taking them.

However, I would part company with you in the sense that I think that for some people taking drugs is probably the best option when other factors are taken into consideration

i agree with what you are saying , i just think prevention is better than the cure and that certain things , mainly aerosols/shake and vac etc should be avoided , people should try it and see what helps , I have also heard good things about salt pipes but dont know anyone who has used them , if i had asthma i would certainly give one a go.

http://www.thesaltpipe.co.uk/ << i am in no way associated with this company before anyone says "conflict of interest " i just think they seem like a good idea and that company comes top of the list , they are also available on ebay.

    peace.

Salt pipes? I've never heard of that. Could you say any more about them?

I was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma at the age of 46. I use a preventer inhaler and use relievers after long runs to prevent myself getting drowsy a couple of hours later (strange but true). Otherwise I only need relievers after anaerobic exercise or during running when it's hot and dry or very cold and very breezy

i have spoken to a couple of people who have used them ( convos through work ) and people say they are really good and helps them stay off the inhalers a bit more, i suppose you are just breathing minute salt particles into your lungs ala the seaside , i would def give it a go.

Suck it up and keep training.

i found that the thought of getting cracked on the nose made me breathe at 100 times a minute , try and calm down and you might be fine?

With regards the seretide it should stop you using the SAB as you have described as long as you take it twice a day. The dosage i believe can go upto 1000 micrograms dailyso its not really a problem.

I would say use a little as possible to keep you non symptomatic
Awesome thanks a lot dude. The advice is much appreciated

If I dont use my ventolin before / during exercise I struggle within minutes of getting to about 60% mhr. I'm fine warming up but soon as I start to breathe hard my lungs just seem to shut down and I can barely breathe. as long as I have a few puffs beforehand though it never bothers me even when going full out.

I have also found that If I dont take my preventative ( flixotide ) on a daily basis it just plays up at random times not just with exercise.

Last time I went for a peak flow test I scored poorly which is odd cos even as a youngster with asthma I used to practically hit the top of the thingymajig. Glad I read this thread as I have been meaning to go see the asthma nurse for ages
