Default Cutting weight a big part of BJJ?!

I've never heard of anyone on about this in BJJ. Well i was going to enter the Brittish Open but sadly didnt but before hand i asked my trainer if i should cut down from 75KG down to 68KG for the competition but he said "You'll be fine" but i noticed that most the competitors where roughly the same size and build as me when watching the tournement. I cut from 76KG to 72KG in 3 days for the Ground Control competition (No transport FTL). So is cutting weight big part of BJJ in competitons and in general?? Sooner or later i will have to get use to cutting weight for MMA fights but will i have to do the same if i wanna do well in BJJ competitons?

Cutting weight for BJJ comps ain't a great idea when you'll be weighing in right before your category starts.

No cutting weight is not important for BJJ.

Being in the best shape possible for the weight category you enter is.

With a weigh in a couple of minutes before your first match weight CUTTING is pretty pointless as you will be so dehydrated you will lose for sure.

If however you can easily shed bodyfat over the couple of months preceding a comp then it is a good idea.

so keep to your rough body weight instead of attempting to cut weight ? I was just curious as i lost the 3KG in several days and thought if i attempted it abit earlier to cut to 68kg weight would i be such a wise idea. I suppose the affects come along the more water, fat you lose.

there is a difference between cutting weight and losing weight.

Should you enter a competition at your optimum weight? YES

Should you CUT weight through water loss for a comp with a pre fight weigh in? NO

So if you can lose weight through adopting a more sensible diet then do it but a 3 day crash diet and dehydration won't do you any good at all.

As has already been stated, with the BJJ format of weighing in as you step on the mat, weight-cutting is pretty pointless.

This is an article I wrote several years ago which highlights the negative impact of weight cutting on performance. It related to Judoka, for BJJ it is even worse.
