    Default opinions please

Im new to BJJ (3 lesson new) i have been to 2 lesson in traditional JJ and one lesson in no Gi BJJ at the wolfslair

I like idea of the Gi for the gradings but am i right to believe the belt grading in traditional is different in BJJ?

it is Gi that i want to learn mainly for competitions, but the traditional JJ school is not 2 min drive from my house but the wolfslair is a 40mile round trip

im not sure which i should go for, i enjoyed both schools or which is better for ground fighting comps

only real gripe i have is with the 40mile round trip twice a week, so 80mile total

    opinions please guys

How much sparring do they do in the trad school? What sort of techniques do they teach and how are they taught?

Trad JJ and BJJ grades can't be compared at all.

at the trad jj there ethos is more street self defense, i have learnt basic passing the guard, a sweep from guard, hip toss into armbar and a couple of striking and arm locks from a street situation.

there is sparring about 15mins towards the end of the session, they do work alot more on ground fighting when there is an immanent competition, but i have been told they only enter about 2 a year

Trash the Trad JJ mate... I did this for a few years until I discovered BJJ and MMA..... I then realised I wasted my time with Trad JJ - don't make the same mistake I did with the Trad JJ......

You are seriously better off training the BJJ and MMA classes at the Wolfy... This way you are training for BJJ competition, and the MMA classes will prepare you for 'street self-defence' as well as fighting in the cage in the future....

I would continue training the BJJ classes Tue and Thu, and use the money you would spend on Trad JJ on the MMA classes at the Wolfy.... As the MMA classes run straight after the BJJ classes, this means that you be out training two nights a week, but covering BJJ and MMA... This leaves you the rest of the week for work/family commitments, or if you're single, either more training, or partying/chasing girls etc...

Bro if your serious in anyway about fighting then in my mind there just isnt anything to consider except for a relaxed drive 2-3 times a week or more if you find someone going in the same direction.
Mma and bjj is so much more fun and excitement than playing around with static technique after static technique. Also look into how well they do in the competitions and which comps they enter you cant argue with quality training its worth its weight in gold.
Oh yeah I did traditional jitsu for 6 months and thought there striking or self defence wrist lock efforts was not good neither was there ground game(thats me being modest) although there throws were technically very good but then you might as well just do judo anyway.
