Strikeforce Re-Signs Top Prospect Tyron Woodley
    posted by J. Andrew Yount

After a successful debut for Strikeforce back in June at the Shields vs Lawler event on Showtime, welterweight prospect Tyron ‘T-Wood’ Woodley is being brought back by the organization. Woodley has been hailed by many to be one of the next big stars in the sport. With a 3-0 record as a professional, and an undefeated amateur career, he is certainly on the rise. The signing adds another top-end prospect to Strikeforce’s growing roster of talent.

Woodley had supporters even before his professional debut this past February. Several of his American Top Team training partners had already labeled the 0-0 phenom as “the best up and comer” in the sport. Of course, ‘T-Wood’ did not disappoint once he debuted. He fought alongside Din Thomas and Ben Askren on the Headhunters promoted “The Patriot Act”. In that fight he submitted his opponent, Steve Schneider, to strikes in just over a minute.

In his second bout, Woodley rolled over Jeff Carstens at Respect Is Earned: Brotherly Love Brawl. Earning a rear naked choked victory in less than a minute. After that victory though, it was right back in the gym and on the road. Woodley has made regular treks to Florida to train at the American Top Team headquarters. He’s also made the trip out to California to train at the famed American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) to train with the likes of Josh Koscheck, John Fitch, and Mike Swick.

Just over a month after securing his second victory, Woodley would find himself fighting in his hometown, Saint Louis, for one of the premier organizations in the world. With hundreds of family and friends in attendance, Woodley would show off some of his Mizzou wrestling skills, getting several highlight reel slams, and put on a four minute grappling clinic before finally submitting Sal Woods via arm triangle.

While his next bout is not officially scheduled, it is expected that 'T-Wood' will be in action in late September.
