    Default Weighted Vests - Running

A mate of mine has been running with a weighted vest. WHats the benefits of doing this ?

Thinking I might give it ago (not sure why ?) , just worried about the impact when running. I run 2/3 x 5 mile runs each week a some shorter ones which include sprints and hill running. 1k or 2k runs

    Thanks

Would these be good for weight loss and stuff?

It’s used to increase muscle mass and improve overall weight management. It’s regarded here as good resistance training. I’ve seen it being used in many fire depts. during training to include Dept. Of Defense personnel. Those things have become a popular choice for college kids as well. I would recommend an adjustable one. You’ll find more use for it during different activities. I borrowed one first, then decided it’s not for me. It’s much more difficult than it looks; definitely a no-joke work out.

one of my mates made one by buying army webbing from a army surplus and making little bags of sand to adjust the weight. i think it cost him around 20 quid or so.

Not a great idea you risk damaging your knees and stress fractures, if you really want to run with weight start out with running with an empty rucksack, then every 2 weeks increase the weight by 1-2kg, trust me you will feel the difference! Don't rush into it though!

i think this is a good idea personally. I thought this myself, decent (cheap) walking rucksack and bottles of water added for various weights. Also doubles as home made Powerbag

A dipping belt is good for adding weight to your chins and dips, although It's not much use for sprints.
