£1 fine, lol! Reckon an appropriate punishment would be that they should get the knife that they carry and give them 500 cuts. That'lll sort 'em out!

hospital told a guy i used to work the doors for that when he got stabbed in the back with a 3inch blade, his muscle thickness is what saved it doing serious damage. i know a 3inch knife is hardly a rambo knife but another guy who got stabbed in the same fight by the same knife was on life support in a bad way.

No but it's quite simple isn't it, if you are carrying a packaged knife it's clear you just purchased it thus you shouldn't be arrested if you're taking it home. If you're carrying a knife out of the packaging in your pocket or something, then you're an idiot and £10 isn't a big enough fine to teach you for carrying deadly weapons.

Even if you have no intention of using the knife who's to say that you wont if some guy was beating on you, is my point. Carrying knives anywhere other than packaged ones to take home should face large fines, that way people can't make up bullshit excuses and get fined £10 for it.

Knives, particularly something like a leatherman(which is illegal as the blade locks open) is extremely useful to have on you.

Yeah, I would imagine a lot of people carry some sort of knife on them fairly regularly, for totally legit reasons. Fishing, camping, various trades...

Ok, if you're walking down the road in street clothes with a kitchen knife in your jacket pocket, that is dodgy. But who knows what the circumstances in these cases were?

Do people really think the police/courts would fine someone £1 if they thought someone had been carrying a knife to attack people with?

but you said yourself that £180 was the minimum fine for something not even nearly as serious as this, so its pretty obvious that this is something that has a genuine reason behind it, been built up to be somthing massive and only some of the facts been given out.. which is pretty much all the press do

Yes true to an extent, but from the %'s its not only one person who has been fined a tenner.

Apparently a large of the people get fined about £150 which tbh still isn't really much compaired to my example. Therefore the excused reasons you guys are saying about the £10 fines only backs up the fact that £150 fine for carrying a deadly weapon without any honest reason is absolute bullshit.

If you are carrying a knife in your pocket and you don't need it for work you should be facing more serious charges than a £150 fine. Tbh if you're carrying a knife for work, fishing or camping etc it doesn't have to be in your pocket, it can easily be in a bag or box, then you probably wouldn't even get caught with it in the first place and it would be a blue moon if you managed to or even willed to take it out of the box/bag to stab someone with it if you're actually going to work.

How many of the people who carry knives for improper reasons do you reckon can afford to pay a £150 fine? I would love to know what %age of the overall fines actually gets received.
