You wont need to jail break it, it will work fine,

Because im greedy and want to run shit like winterboard, backgrounder and installous etc

should be fine, the only problem you will get is warrenty issues if it breaks (as in your dont have one)

google something called "iphonebrowser" looking at it, it seems like you can open up your iphone without jailbreaking it and install all the apps and games directly onto it without risking your warrenty.
i just done a itouch 2nd gen useing redsn0w (appently its the same to do a iphone and itouch ) and that was easy. took about 5mins once i got all the correct software installed.
