    Default The Ungraded

To what extent are white belt competitions won by those who have remained ungraded the longest?

Very small minority of winners imo.

Do you mean white belts where they do not have stripes at all?

Clearly length of time served will be a strong factor in how well a white
belt does, but it's not the be all I reckon.

No mate. I meant folk who should be, due to skill level, blue belts but are competing in a white belt competition because they have, for one reason or another, not been graded blue yet.

I guess the same applies to purple vs blue etc, but seems to me more problematic for a white belt competition. The ADCC seem to have decided the optimum solution is to have white compete against blue. I guess that way there is no issue of white belts that should be blue and also, of course, the level of the competition is a good bit higher.

The ADCC have not decided on an 'optimum solution',they have just put some belt divisions together.

White Belts will fight in the White Belt division at BJJ Tournaments until their Instructor promotes them.

Everyone progresses at different rates in BJJ and it is not always the guy who has been training longest that is at the top of a Belt division.

Think about this-If a white belt has been training longer than everyone else but has not been awarded Blue Belt, why is that?
