I don't think Hiza Guruma would translate that well into no-gi tbh, I believe it would look more like tighter version of De Ashi Barai.
Hiza Guruma translates as Knee Wheel. In No-Gi obv the best option would be executing it from a farside underhook with some sort of wrist/arm control on the other arm. If you're that tight to an opponent you'd have to bend over to place your foot on his knee which takes away alot of the power of this throw.
When I suggested Hiza, I wrote it purely from a judo point of view, to be practised with a gi.
i thought that, farside underhook and a wrist/tricep control, but i like the idea of a shallower underhook putting the ridge of the hand in the armpit, you could probably get the underhook first, then switch to the armpit control to execute the throw.
might be having a little play with that next week.
Thanks for the informative post. Im very tall and quite skinny. I had my first judo session yesterday and Ive been doing BJJ for a year. I was considering asking for thoughts on throws for lanky guys in the basic section since I have little luck with some of the throws that require me to get very low. Ill research the suggested techniques.
Great post! It's very nice and userful. Thank you so much for Paul post.
