I don't know the guy but if it's not BJJ it might not be what you want. Budgie, as mentioned above, is not BJJ but I believe his classes do include 100% sparring etc... not all JJ places do though.

Wrestling Sophia Gardens Tues and Thursday 6 to 7:30 olympic freestyle/greco-roman team ran long with the judo academy and Pedro Bessa.

I am fairly sure Chris Rees (Rob and my instructor) has people coming to the Cardiff classes from Merthyr so you might be able to out with lifts etc.
Brotherhood MMA Cardiff, Canton Community Centre Tues 8pm and Thurs 8pm also 8 - 9 pm Mon & 7 - 8 pm at Thurs Eagles Thai boxing gym, 134 Ninan Park Rd Riverside Cardiff look for black metal gates and in there

i know jason hes a very nice guy taught by nigel williams o yama do yawara ryu

    http://merthyrjujitsu.co.uk/

im from merthyr and ive been to most of the merthyr gyms, it all depends what your looking for:

self defence the jason will teach you well but if you want to do MMA there is a gym in merthyr iron worriors which i know is ok.

i started training with heath over at falcons MA in blaena about 15miles from merthyr but its far better than anything you get in merthyr. falcons is an awsome gym with a real close bunch of lads (no big heads) and the training i second to none.
