    Default virtues

    The Bushidō code is typified by seven virtues:

    * Rectitude (義, gi)
    * Courage (勇, yu)
    * Benevolence (仁, jin)
    * Respect (礼, rei)
    * Honesty (誠, makoto)
    * Honour (誉, yo)
    * Loyalty (忠, chu)

    surely 7 worthy qualities for you to judge yourself

    The way is superior to a religious doctrine or a code of ethics. It is both existential and metaphysical. The meaning of these virtues can only be realised through pratice, not simply through meditation or reflection.

    You know the rules. There must also be a section for boobies....

    I wholeheartedly agree with the bushido code and also with the addition of boobies.

    I admire your virtues and I will try to honour them - all of them - but in the presence of that massive JUGGERAMA!!!!! - I have lost every single one - very quickly!

    Surely all 7 of those virtues are personally subjective and/or culturally relevant, therefore you might as well just live by the code of 'do what you think is right' or 'do what everyone around you says is right?'

    I think you mean 'culturally relative', and yea, of course they are. But Bushido is culturally specific; Japaneese society 9th century to 1870's. Those virtues are meaningful in that context. Its really down to the individual if they think they can make them meaningful and utilise them in any meaningful way in their own contemporary society. There is a really good book on it called 'Bushido: The soul of Japan'. It is extremely insightful. I would recomend it to anyone interested in Bushido, religion, spirituality, personal development or generally interested in how to be in todays, rather pointless, trashy, directionless, futile, corrupt, fake, immorral, spiritually bankrupt and genocidal culture.
