Its probably the same reason you dont get that many openly gay sportsmen in other fields, because the abuse you would get from some of the crowd would be immense, Yes your more likely to get sick of it week in week out at a football stadium than once every couple of months ringside but its not going to be a good thing for them to get is it?
Also some sponsors might not want to be the one supporting the gay guy, not that I agree with it but you never know?
