Hi all, just found out there is a jiu-jitsu club locally to me and just wondered how people rate regular jj versus bjj?
What are the main differences?
Thanks!

Traditional JJ varies greatly. It could be nearly all stand-up and throws, it could be all "self defence", it might include only a little full sparring (or none at all) or quite a lot.
Too broad an art to judge it as one imo. Does the club have a website?

Yeh it does but there is not a lot of information to be honest, i might just get in touch and get some further information and make a decision from there.
Rob T's got it right, one of the guys i go to for Grappling and MMA does reg JJ and its almost all self defense based with rele light boxing sparring at best, they also follow a syllabus for grading which is also very self defense based.. alot of pressure points, hip throws and escapes from various positions and holds!! But give the first class a go and see how it is!!
