Any advice do i need to sqeeze tighter or should i grap his head etc. Is the high guard a postion that is essential to learn because in theory it sounds great to climb your legs up and attack but i can't seem to keep it???

left hand takes cross grip on his left sleeve cuff, right hand shallow collur grip on his right. Break his posture and just monkey the legs up but tbh mate its the same with traiangle i can get the first part but before i can grab my shin and move my body to angle he posture uo
I guess my question should of been once i have broke the guys posture how do you keep the broken down so to speak
excuse the spelling half asleep
Once you've broken the posture, make sure you really concentrate on the collar grip. That's vital in keeping them down. Work your legs high (I also usually like to switch my sleeve grip to the elbow) and get your ankles crossed asap.
Now you just have to keep everything tight. Pull your knees towards you and towards each other. Really pull with your abs. The collar grip should always be pulling them down.
If they do start lifting up and you can't stop it, follow them with your hips. If you let them start making space they are probably gonna escape at some point.

If your at Carlsons just watch Dickie Martin.
why not ask your trainer im sure he can drill it into you

I like to grab my shin behind their head, sort of like rubber guard but with feet crossed. In some cases you can stick your forum between their head and shoulder and head. If they explosively sit up, follow them and hip bump sweep
Nothing works 100% of the time. if you break his posture and he posture's up again, you can keep on break him down or go to open guard of spider guard or sit-up guard ect. you can try a different control like getting on over hook or under over or double underhooks to try and keep him down.
having a high guard is just one option. dont try and force it at the expense of other technique, for the sake of it.
Not at Calsons swift motion but heard great things about dickie martins triangle and i'm sure he would offer me great advice...
