Bolton Catch started in Jan 2005. (www.boltoncatch.co.uk) The clubs home was Bolton Olympic Wrestling Club where it secured a Wednesday night training slot. A few years later and as the club grew, another location was secured on Sundays at the new state of the art purpose built SKK Judo Club in Earlestown. Now there are further BJJ sessions located at Team Kaobon in Liverpool on Tue & Thu, and at St Helens Thai boxing club on Friday.
This arrangement seems to work fine as the people who train at the sessions live in locations all around the North West of England. There are a wide range of people who attend them ranging from MMA fighters and Judo players, BJJ players, recreational players and women and children.
All these sessions are taught by Andy Aspinall who has been involved in the grappling for almost 20 years now. Both his sons train BJJ with him. All the sessions that Andy instructs now come under the same banner of the newly formed “Aspinall Jiu Jitsu”. www.aspinallbjj.com
Andy was in the IT industry for 25 years and was becoming fed up of the rat race. He turned his back on that career to spend time with his family. He retrained in sports massage and rehabilitation, and continued in his thirst for knowledge of BJJ. As well as the above locations, he spreads the BJJ word in local schools and at a lunchtime school club. Andy has never had a BJJ coach and says he learns with his sons and people he has trained with. He has trained in grappling with judo players, Olympic wrestlers, submission wrestlers and BJJ people. Some of the original people he started training with are still all training together today.
Please visit our website and we hope you can come visit one of the above locations and enjoy training with us.
