Training at different clubs?
whats the craic with training at multiple clubs?
Is it looked down upon to move around different clubs if your not training serious or fighting?
Iv trained at 5 clubs an odd time here and there just as a hobbie where I can make it around work and other shite and it just dawned on me that this might not be cool with the people who run the club and the people who train there.
Iv never had anyone say to me about not doing it but wanted to get peoples opinions on it. Sometimes im weeks without training and only go when I can.
I turned up at a closed training group last night which is the first time iv experienced reluctance for new people to pop in and out, the guys where all cool like and I had a great time training but it dawned on me that if people are investing time in you maybe you shouldnt be a gym vagabond?
whats peoples thoughts?

I dont want guys from other teams training at our gym if there is any chance our fighters could be matched with them or fighters from the other team they train at. You dont get guys training at different teams in other sports.
I do think people should look around at different gyms/clubs/teams before deciding to join one as the first club you look at isnt always the best.
We also have good relationships with other teams where there fighters have came to our gym to train, mostly this is guys we wont ever fight against though.
personally as long as you're not competing against us or spreading gossip around then its cool
thats the way i looked at it dean but i fully respect anyone opinion that they wouldnt want me to train at their gym if i was also going to other gyms too.
for me the only time i can travel through to train in glasgow is a saturday, i work in edinburgh and dont get out of work til after 6 most nights, then its a 60 mile journey during rushhour which just wouldnt work, everytime iv been through to your gym i leave wanting to go back and learn more.
iv done training at other gyms in edinburgh which is great but i struggle to make the training times if im late in work so i take what opportunity i get tocome along to classes whenever i can make it (not very often).
would be a shame to not get this saturday opportunity when I can make it.
i think that if your training in the fighters classes etc... then you shoudlnt be moving around but im no where near that level and as iv said its just a hobby to do a bit of grappling.
i think if your respectful and dont go away giving tips to people on other peoples training habits then thats cool but the people who im training with arnt going to know if im doing that or not.

i dont mind myself i've done it and ppl do it at our gym, imo its a good way to tell if your main gym aint training hard enough, i would like to oneday make a career in mma so i absorb all the info i can

Now that im not fighting ive trained a bit with Caledonia MT & Viper FT & no one has had a negative approach in any way.
Id never discuss fighters with other gyms & would respect the gyms if they had concerns over match ups made. If i were to fight again id be inclined to decide on one or the other & train exclusively there.
As long as the coaches knew your intentions id imagine theyd be ok with it, after all, each gym has probably got good/bad reputations for different things.
Im sure the coaches wouldnt be too shy to ask you not to return.

I've missed alot of mma due to moving from Aberdeen to Glasgow for uni.
Recently, my way around it is training individual ma's in glasgow then MMA in Aberdeen. The hope is to continue to represent mma for Jigoku but should I take a thai fight or enter a bjj comp in the future I would represent the club here.
I think unless your competing, it isnt that big an issue. Floating members can be a nightmare sometimes though, especially if a class is packed as it is.

All the greats train at different clubs, if you train at the same place day in day out you will get to a certain level and stay there, if you want to get better you have to train with other guys.
As for fighting, you stick to your club/fight team, I have no problem with going to other clubs and training as long as your not fighting for them, you stick to your own.
I've had stick for training at multiple places, one of the main reasons I do it is because I don't aim to compete and because of my work it often opens opportunities to train at different places with different people ......
Two lines I got via e-mail/facebook from gyms:
"I bet you work doors?" - ...... I helped take a door off once and it nearly fell on me!
After asking if I can pay for a single lesson "We don't like time wasters around here"
Danny Mitchell is cool, I can go down and visit his gym anytime without any hassle, great teacher too always shows me something cool too! His lessons are gold and very cost effective.
if your competing you shouldnt jump around gyms but it happens from time to time. the other coaches working together is a great thing but the whole we dont fight this team and that team because we train together bugs me theres to much of this going on and it makes matching even more of a hassle your team should be able to face any other team.
