Just A Quick Hello!!
Hi Guys. Just wanted to say hello.
A late starter at 36 from the Plymouth area.
Been Kick Boxing and Brazilian Ju Jitsuing for about 4 weeks now. Absolutely love it. Wish i had started a few years ago. Got sick of lifting weights and running all the time. I have been a big fan of combat sports, ever since i joined the Mariines at 17!! Will I ever get to fight? Who knows...
Open to any advice from you guys. Looking forward to reading all the advice and threads.
Enjoying the threads about etiquette and what to wear. Dont want to walk around looking like a power ranger!
Once again Hello!!
as a fellow new comer to the sport, the best advice I can give you...
have fun, and welcome to the twisted world of MMA
you can look forward to broken bones, cuts bruises, and more pain than you'll ever imagine
its all good though...
pain is only weakness leaving the body

But the pain does make you feel alive!
You'll be reasonably fit then, or at least have the right mentality for it, having been a bootneck (ex or current)
So the running, circuits and weights will be nothing new. But the technique and training in general is all new and its absollutely awesome. Im not exactly a veteran in the sport, I started thai and BJJ a christmas, and I still absolutely love it.
Read up on as much info as you can, and if you need help, we'll help you if you post a thread up.
Welcome to MMA, and welcome to cagewarriors. Many threads about boobies and fridges await.
How you expect to run with the wolves come night when you spend all day sparring with the puppies
Thanks for the welcome Ross. Any chance you were once in the corps not many people on the outside know the terminology?
I have been out for about 13 years but still love my phys! Its just nice to focus on something. You really in America bud??
Welcome along Nate1. It's a good forum which you can get loads of good advice from (but some dodgy stuff too).
Basically enjoy the sport and you'll get whatever you want out of it.
Where you training at?
See your from the Lions Den. Looks like you have an awesome set up there.
I am training at the Taurus Gym in Plymouth Kick Boxing and BJJ.
Nice bunch of level headed guys. I think we suffer with the MMA scene down here, what are your thoughts??
Wise old tree
Welcome to the forum, ignore pauljono... at all times.
Ross90s location is an anchorman reference Nate1 lol.
Just remember not to wear your man u shorts to training :P
This is not a gif. It is an actual video of Fedor doing infinate press ups.
In my opinion, MMA in the South West is pretty good. There are a few gyms dotted around the place so if anyone's interested they shouldnt have far to go to train.
As for the standard, it's quite good from the shows I've been to round the area.
Thanks for the comments on the gym, Dave (Matthews, owner) has put a lot of time and effort into getting it where it is. He's doing pretty good down there now too, got a "Pro Kumite" cage, weights area and a decent sized matted area, plus all the usual pads and bags and deadman etc. If you were a bit closer you should pop in one time, you'd fit right in as theres a few ex and current Booties training there pretty regular.
