Contrary to popular belief jogging actually makes you gain weight. Avoid any sort of cardio, it is a myth that it helps to reduce weight.
How you expect to run with the wolves come night when you spend all day sparring with the puppies
Very true; a 2008 study by Meeth and Liese found that cardiovascular activity actually shocks your body into preserving any energy you put into your body and turning it into bodyfat for possible later use; but by continually doing cardio, your body continually stores fat in "panic mode" and you never lose anything.
A further study in 2007 by Hopkins et al also found that eating up to 5 portions of fruit and veg a day accentuated the problem, causing the majority of participants to in fact gain additional weight. BMI's on average rose by almost 17% and overall weight by 22% over the testing period of 6 months. A follow up study 18 months later found that participants who kept to a diet high in fruit and vegetables while combined with large amount of cardiovascular energy continued to put on weight, whereas those participants who cut out completely, or reduced to less than 2 portions per day, of fruit and vegetables maintained a steady weight.

In all seriousness though, if anyoen is reading this for advice:
30 minutes is a reasonable place to start to build up stamina if you've not run for years. However, if you want to burn fat you need to do longer and also read up on what kind of heart rate you should maintain for how long .... and how often

So is jogging for longer distances better for losing weight than shorter distances at higher intensity ? I've been training mma twice a week for a year and i also play footy on a sunday and im still carrying this bloody spare tyre round my stomach , i figured it would have gone by now but it isnt the case ,so im gonna have to suck it up and do some kind of running on my non training days.Im just a bit confused as to what is the best way to do it for maximum results.
