Up until about two years ago the winter never bothered me. In fact I'd have to say that I quite enjoyed crisp frosty mornings and cold nights sat in front of the fire.

However, I don't know if it's the fact that the last two winters have been especially bitter, but I have grown to really hate the cold weather and long to live somewhere where the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees celsius.

It's only family that keep me here to be honest.

That said, I know lots of people who have gone abroad seeking a better life, and whilst many are perfectly happy with the decisions they've made, I'd have to say that for the slight majority it hasn't worked out and they've either stayed away out of stubbornness, or thrown in the towel and come back to blighty.

There are many things deeply wrong with this country, but I still love it here and I feel grateful to have been born here. When you look around this world at the poverty and violence that the majority of people on this planet suffer on a daily basis, it becomes obvious that we really don't know what true hardship is.

i moved away and whilst coming here fulfills certain aspects (better weather, more freedom etc) i'll be back in blighty at one point in the future. can't live overseas for the rest of my life. have met so many ex-pats and the general consensus is mixed.
personally there's too much to miss, family and friends obvioiusly but football, being able to go overseas cheaply, decent shops, fashion, restaurants, bars/clubs, beers, drugs etc. all aspects of the uk that imo shit on most countries.
i always hear brits slagging the place off, but the grass isnt always greener and alot of problems people moan about the uk with are the same anywhere in the world (taxes, crime, employment etc).

Im not English, but I've lived there for a few years and I think it's a great country.

Most of you seem not to appreciate it though?

    What i like:

    Great gyms to train in.
Some of the best restaurants and nightlife anywhere.
    Stunning countryside/national parks/mountains etc
Some of the best music every produced.
Amazing cities like London, Manchester, liverpool.
Getting free health care while I was there.
    Cheap booze.

So it doesnt have a tropical climate, but it also doesnt have earthquakes, tsunami's, volcano's, venomous insects or snakes, animals that will kill and eat you, political instability or famine.

    Could be worse.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Yeah, it has its problems but on a whole I think it is one of the best countries to live in.

Well said. We have freedom of the press, free speech etc. and a comparatively tolerant, open-minded society. Can you imagine living in Iran? Fuck that.
