Quite an interesting break down on Akiyamas Judo and Judos use on a whole in MMA:

If BJJ hogs credit for Judo techniques, such as the guard, where was Akiyama's Judo when he was getting triangled by a guy who doesn't train Judo at all?

Just think it's a bit dumb to say things like BJJ hogs credit for Judo techniques when Judo (at least competition level) willingly threw all those techniques to the kerb a long time ago. Now all of a sudden, Judo should get all the credit for the guard work of MMA fighters!? 99.9% of MMA fighters train their ground games at BJJ gyms, bit late for Judo to take credit for that now, isn't it!

Also I very much doubt Akiyama's ability to catch and counter leg kicks comes from training Judo, which the author seemed to think it did. A few Thai boxers must be scratching their heads at that one.

Yeah anyway, I do think Judo is effective, but the author does sound like he has a chip on his shoulder. According to him, everything Akiyama does right comes from his Judo training, as if he hasn't spent the last few years training Thai, Wrestling, BJJ, etc, etc.
