    Default Cost of Private lessons (Brighton) and are they helpful for beginners ?

    I live in the Brighton area and am hoping to start BJJ again after a slow start.Would private lessons be beneficial ? Also what is the average price for lessons ?

    I see that Marcio Gomes in Brighton is £50. Is that a bit steep ?

    Thanks.

    £40 or £50 is pretty standard for black belt privates imo. Some black belts charge upwards of £70.

    If you can afford and justify the cost of privates then have some, they certainly won't do you any harm. However, personally as a beginner I rushed into having privates fairly soon after starting and looking back I think they were a bit of a waste tbh.

    Train regular classes for at least 3/4 months until you've gotten some idea of what you can and can't do. Identify the areas where you seem to be struggling and only then might it be worth considering some privates to work on these problems imo.

    Of course if you're minted then privates all day everday is the way to go, but if money matters and you want to get the most bang for your bucks then I wouldn't bother just yet.

    If you're looking to get back into it, why notjust train a lot? Then you can discuss with whoevers teaching you what you wantto get out of a private lesson.

    Btw Gomes hasn't run classes in Brighton for a while. The places I am aware of are;

    Ivam Maciel at ZT
    Miad at King Alfreds (Alliance)
    Gus at Alive (GB?)

    I'd recommend Ivams classes, but that's because I train there!

    Try them all, I think they all do a first class free type of thing.
