Monohydrate cause thats what you find in the bargain bin at Tesco. No significant difference anyways.

What's the difference between the two? Which one works best? Again, surely it's not about preference, it's about what works!

Not much difference IMO I think it is more which one works better for you personally.

Why don't you run a test for both and see which one you get on better with?

Ethyl Ester gives me more pronounced results and no cramping.

Beware of weight gain (water) when using it though.

If there is no weight (water) gain, then there's probably not much point in taking creatine.

iv took both in the past and in my opinion, ethyl ester worked better, not because of any special ingredient or it being a superior creatine. simply because it came in pill form, didnt require a loading period and i could simply take the tabs before and after training conveniantly.
i definately noticed gains in my muscle size and strength, and iv came across a few studies in uni that proove that creatine helps muscular endurance, however i never really felt i gained any answers to proove or disproove this area in my experiance.
i feel on the whole creatine ethyl ester is the best on this basis and is definately worth taking.
