Agree but age will make a difference as will countless other factors. The point I'm trying (unsuccessfully so far) to make is that why are we even having this discussion when we don't have the experience or knowledge to know what constitutes a grade in BJJ, leave it to the instructors your under and put faith in their judgement.
agree the instructor will know if the students is 'worthy of grade elevation' many factors have to be taken in to account you must bear in mind the higher grades the student will gain means expectation to perform and instruct some guys may be top class and lower grade can tap out higher grade all day long but could never provide a technical nor practical explanation of the many techniques used.
i was 40 yo in 1999 and 2nd Dan trad JJ dan grade in Sambo and only earned a blue in Bjj thats just how the instructor saw it at that time
