    Default royce tribute

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY6OYSbGRQQ

nice vid of Royces first 2 ufc tournaments

he is and always will be my idol
he put Jiu jitsu on the map. took balls to fight in open weight no rules bouts with so much pressure riding on him.
Royce sometimes gets criticism but for me he will always be the man,
    He walked the walk.

    regards shaky

But yeah, Royce was the man that got me into BJJ/MMA....

I actually visited the Torrance academy in '99, when Royce was teaching / training there - at the time he was preparing for his BJJ match with Wallid. Got to meet Royce and Rorion when I was there - cool guys!

Which reminds me - I still have memories of a class Rorion was teaching. Very relaxed style and very detailed and clear - always encouraged questons. I remember someone asking a question, then out of respect the student said "Thank You Sir". Rorion immediately replied "I'm not Sir, I'm Rorion. You're the Sir". I thought that was bloody brilliant - never seen such humility and respect shown from a martial arts teacher to a student before.

I also remember waiting outside the Torrance academy for my taxi to take me to the hotel. All of a sudden Royce pulls up outside and asks us if we want a lift to the hotel! Needless to say we accepted - got chatting to Royce - really cool/funny guy! Ahhh those were the days!

Royce is and will always be a Legend. People go on and on about his gradings but a lot of us in the UK wouldnt have got our start without him, it is a shame to see the standard of some of his guys now thought, but that doesnt take anything away from the man.

^^^^ Dave C - I was there at that seminar, and i believe its Adam Marshall over your left shoudler
