I started on page 5 but the dude Shaolin Bushido has plenty of posts before. Does anyone know who this guy is? He seems to be the foremost expert on the origins of BJJ in the world!

Carlson Gracie was considered the "Godfather of MMA" and was family champion for a long time. He went out on his own after he got tired of Helio yelling at him for teaching "outsiders" (anyone not family) certain techniques. Carlson believed those that trained under/with him were his family and held nothing back. This got him ostracized from the rest of the family.

Makes Carlsons legacy all the greater!

Think about it, ontop of the effect his teaching had on the explosion of creativity in BJJ, if the above is true then he had a far reaching and massive impact on every single BJJ academy worldwide and how BJJ was, is today and will be taught in the future - everywhere!

He wasnt the first or only one to teach outside the family, he just refused to hold back anything. Wouldnt you pay for that?

I think he also liked to wind up his uncle and the family.

Carlson was famous for teaching for free.

If he spotted a tough kid at the boxing club,or at the beach and the kid was from the favela the kid would train for nothing.That is why he didn't die a rich man (RIP)
Carlson's aim was to produce champions,not make money.
