Something about Dana Whites background is slightly fishy and I want to figure it out

This college dropout that runs a couple boxing classes for some inner city tards and gym moms starts taking a Brazilian Jiujitsu class with Lorenzo Fertitta (only god knows how you manage to have a billionaire buddy from back in the day) .

They get into MMA and become huge fans of the UFC. This company is sinking so the Fertitta's buy it. No problem with that.

But why...in the blue hell...does Lorenzo think it's a good idea to install the college dropout boxercise trainer as COMPANY PRESIDENT?

Sure it paid off but I just dont get why he sheds out millions for this company and trusts Dana to run it? How does Dana even know him in the first place?

Also there's much deliberation as to whether or not they are/were involved in organised crime.

edit: wikipedia said he used to do aerobics at 3 gyms and also managing pro fighters, i guess the Fertitta's just thought "Hey, Dana knows about MMA and loves the sport, he seems entrepreneurial, lets try him out as president and see how shit goes down"

They wanted someone to be the front man for the UFC, someone who "looked the part" and could talk to press / speak his mind etc. If they had known Dana for such a long time they would know what he is like so i guess he just seemed right for the job.

Remember the UFC was dying and Lorenzo is worth a billion dollars (now, but he was still worth a lot back then) so what did they care if they gave 9% of this failing company to Dana and see if they could get it up and running better and make it successful.

I doubt they would of cared if the UFC had failed miserably, because they would still of had a tonne of money elsewhere in the casino's etc, so why not give their friend a shot at it.

I think it's got everything to do with friendship. They probably did think "Fuck it we're rich, it can afford to fail so lets give him a shot if he's interested". But at the same time. Dana is clearly clever, ambitious and hard working so they probably felt it wasn't a big risk, they knew him personally and therefor knew he wasn't some fuck up idiot. You can tell he's not got that attitude from 5 minutes listening to the guy.

Im sure this is all accurate:

Dana White was a boxing promoter & manager, he got into business with SEG owned UFC by managing Ortiz & Liddell. Cant remember how he knew Fertitas but think thats how he was involved with promoting shows & UFC before being president.
