Thread: Raoul Moats accomplice gets 40 years - Harsh?

Default Raoul Moats accomplice gets 40 years - Harsh?

If a copper hadn't been shot would the sentence still have been the same?

Considering the job they do, should those who are there to protect us get more protection from the courts than the rest of us?

    Not too harsh at all.
Three people are driving around in a cad and one of them is shooting people out the window.
    They're all responsible.
    Sentences seem proportionate.

why are you asking if a policeman getting shot is relevant to the punishment? self-evidently it's relevant.

'well it's one rule for accomplices when a copper gets shot and another rule for accomplices when no-one gets shot.'

This, the sentence in of itself is not harsh, the sentence in relative terms to the ones given out for many other crimes is harsh.

I think the sentence is fine, they went out with intent on shooting people...

The sentence for rapists, peados, murderers and terrorists are far to lenient

What I dont get and how the law needs to be changed is how they value personal wealth higher than life...

for example, I go and pull off a big armed blag, millions go missing, a few people get shaken up ... 40 + years ? the same as murder ? wtf !! shows how out dated the law is

That sentence is a fucking disgrace. How many people who do similar things outside the media spotlight get 40 years? None. If public opinion can control the Law in such a way, why not have Simon Cowell and a public phone-voting system instead of the fucking courts?

If the Law was fair (which, as I understand, is supposed to be the fucking point, right?), then either a) Everyone in a similar situation gets 40 years, or b) He gets 7 years, like the rest of 'em.

I get uncomfortable when I think about how much influence public opinion can have on supposedly sacrosanct rights. If you're unpopular enough, you better fear the worst - and you might have Sky News to thank for that.

I'm not defending what he did, but 40 years (by the standards of modern sentencing) is just wrong.

Quick though experiment: If Moaty was still alive, and able to be sentenced himself, do you really think this dude would have got 40 years?
