Folkstyle looks quite like Freestyle, but there are a few things that Folkstyle doesn't allow (like suplexes).
The main differences are in the scoring - Freestyle favours back exposure (getting behind your opponent and tilting their back to face the mat, whereas Folkstyle favours rides (being on top).
The rules of the Olympic styles seem to change quite often, sometimes these changes are very poorly received, such as the current drawing balls out of a bag thing.
Any American who wrestled at school will have done Folkstyle, before converting to Freestyle or Greco at international level.
NCAA competition has 3 divisions. The best wrestlers routinely wrestle in D1 and D1 school will often recruit good wrestlers from D2 & D3 schools. Likewise, D1 wrestlers might transfer to D2 school to bolster the program there (Matt Furey did this and became a D2 champion).
Anyone who finishes in the top 10 of their division at the end of the year is classed as an "All American".
All wrestling in Britain is Freestyle, although the BAWA is the governing body for both Freestyle and Greco.
