    Bisping will only need 3rds.

I think Bisping will stay on his toes for 3 rounds, then look for the takedown and GNP finish in the 4th or 5th.

Bisping's cardio is very good, but it's never been tested this far. If he really does have great cardio then 5 round fights could certainly help him, particularly with his stick and move style and g'n'p ability (as above ^)

bispings cardio should help him in a 5 rounder but mayhem has been the 5 round distance before so knows what he is getting in to. also he hasnt been submitted since 2002 and the only time he was ever TKO'd was to soccer kicks which the UFC doesnt have. stylwise i think this fight favours bisping but i feel it will be by decision

I'm a billion percent against having non-title 5 round fights. It's ridiculous. It ruins any real continuity, it changes the playing field, and the number of rounds you end up fighting will be dependent on other fights/fighters on the same card (if a higher profile fight is on, 3 rounds is fine, but if not?).

Fights should be wholly separate things, unaffected by anything else. You shouldn't have to suffer a number of 5 rounds fights just on the way to a title shot, when all the guys who came before you only ever had to do 3.

    Fuck this shit.

Homer you are missing the point, now they are extending it to 5 rounds, soon that won't be enough and it will be 9 rounds, then once the public bore of that, it will be a fight.....to THE END !!!!

I initially thought the same way but I'm warming to the idea. For example, Silva and GSP have had impressive stints as champions in their respective weight categories with most challengers only experiencing a 5 round fight in their title challenge. 5 round fights will better prepare some of the up and coming fighters for those extra 2 rounds imo. The counter argument of course is that in the past challengers would prepare a bit differently for an extended fight for the strap but nothing can compare to actually doing 5 round in the cage competitively. If the winner of Bisping/Mayhem gets a shot at the title, this is the best way to prepare for it.

Would be interesting to see what The Count thinks of this, shame he doesn't post here any more.

I was for 5 round fights, but I hadn't looked at it this way.

That being said, they should have a five round fight for a title eliminator.

Plus a lot of fights could have turned out different with two extra rounds, Jon Fitch B.J for instance.
