Default Is there such a thing as a fourth degree brown belt in BJJ?

I wasn't aware there was such a thing.

I'm sure that he's a legit Roger Gracie brown belt but I've just never heard of a fourth degree one before?

You get up to 4 stripes per belt. His next promotion will be Black Belt.

Ahh so it refers to stripes? Ok thanks for that. I'm still getting to grips with the terminology.

So what would an instructor be hoping to see from a four stripe brown belt before he awards him his black?
