We all know this thread has nothing to do with sandbagging and is a hell of alot more to do with one guys individual vendetta against another so unless everyone that was sandbagging today and at other events is going to be exsposed, called a cheat and have their name dragged through the shit then as I said give the guy a break! I don't agree with it myself as I would rather roll or get done in by someone of a higher level because the more you throw yourself in with the animals the closer you are to becoming an animal yourself. This ain't some ref enforcing rules but a troll digging someone out just to cause trouble and drag the guys name through the shit and to influence others opinions on majid. Just my thoughts on it.

    Who gives a shit? Really?

This stuff sorts itself out if you win a white belt or begineers tournament, you enter the next division up. Thats what Maj is doing next time so whats the big deal.

This stuff only gets complicated when you make it so.

Well I suppose I better comment seeing as I organised the comp, sandbagging is very hard to police in NoGi comps, myself and Big Gaz did the brackets and actually moved a few people that we knew entered the "wrong" division. Either because we knew they had been training longer than a year or they were just good, (big Paul from Coatbridge has only been training for 9 months but I put him in the advanced as he recently got his blue belt, he took silver I think)

Even though the comp was busy, having an intermediate would have made the divisions very small. I've said before that people get hung up on the word "advanced", without being disrespectful, not many of the guys in the "Advanced" division would describe themselves as an Advanced grappler.

It's up to the individual if they want to step up and test themselves or stay at home, everybody is different. Very few guys get seriously injured grappling but it does happen I suppose.

Personally as a White & Bluebelt I loved the chance to fight purple/brown/blackbelts etc at no GI comps, it's not all about the little medal. And tapping a brown/Blackbelt makes you a lot happier on your way home than rushing to show your medal to your granny that you got by beating a bunch of guys who are just starting the sport.

Anyway, my thoughts don't really matter.

The comp seems to be growing each time so in the next one, we'll be having a beginner, intermediate and advanced division where possible, and hopefully this will encourage more people to enter.

It's kinda on the wrong thread but thanks to everyone who competed and helped out, wasn't as organised as I would have liked due to everything else going on but it was a great atmosphere at the comp.
I can only apologise that people didn't get their promised tee shirts as there was a fuck up and not enough were ordered, we'll think of a way to make it up to everyone.

It'll be a couple of days before I can sort everything out and post the fully results.

The Superfight between Dan Reid and Danny Mitchell was good to watch and went to the judges decision with Dan getting the nod. Thanks to Danny for making the long trip up with a couple of his guys for the comp.

Ally McCraes family donated a large trophy for the winner of the Advanced Absolute division. This was won by Bart.
Ally's family will donate a trophy for each event from now on which is a lovely gesture.

As per Rob, it was a fantastically organised competition which was well reffed and well run and most importantly I enjoyed it. Although could have done without the krav maga display and the kettlebell fans going mental over the calls for grapplers to the mats haha. I'll be at the next one!

I thought the comp went really well, entering the advanced gave me the opportunity to compete against a purple belt and a brown belt and i only got my blue a few months back. Let's you show what level your at and how you compare to these guys. Aye it's gonna be hard going but it's all a bit of fun at the end of the day!

Thanks for putting on the comp Rob, it looked like everyone enjoyed it. Thanks for offering me the superfight too and all the nice swag
Paul's right about sand bagging sorting itself out, i know in the Naga comps in the states they just keep track of the winners. If you win the Beginner then you go to Intermediate and if you win Intermediate then you have to go to Expert.
I thought the super fight could of been a bit more exciting but Danny is a real tough guy so i was happy to do enough to get the win.

Just a point - there's nothing really wrong with someone competing as a white belt, doing well and being promoted to blue the next day - that's how alot of guys get promoted (be the best white belt, congratulations here's you're blue)

This is something Ive wondered about so thought id ask the mong beginner question.

What qualifies "beginner under 1 year experience"
I train randomly once, sometimes twice a week if lucky (1hour class) at different/but affiliated clubs. longer than a year tho. But there's no chance I'd class myself in advanced ?!

its quite hard to pigeonhole every individual.
It's pish if guys are at it and entering comps, knowing full well what their skills are. but I'd give most guys the benefitof the doubt, at least until some better way of monitoring it is worked out

Training for over 1 year, be it 1 hour a week or 4 hours a day7 days a week, in NoGi, Sombo, Judo, BJJ, Catch or any other grappling art.
This puts you in the +1 year cat, let's not call it advanced as people can't seem to get past that word!

I enjoyed the competition and thought it was well ran. Cheers Rob and I thought the Krav maga was entertaining anyway.
