Default BJJ a real martial art?

I've been thinking recently - BJJ is not a real martial art, is it?
I mean, no striking, all that grabbing and it's all the floor - it's not really a real form of combat?
It's just guys rolling around in pyjamas ffs!
A really tough fighter just wouldn't get caught with all that stuff surely?
Arm locks? Seriously, if the guy is using both his arms to control one of your's, then he's gonna be getting punched with your other hand.
    It's just not gonna work!
Who the fuck bothers with this shit?!
    PROFESSIONAL MMA SHIT.
    LIKES FREE STUFF.

Haha so this is posted at 3am, no responses by 7am and that's a sign the forum is quiet? It is quiet in general, but even if it were heaving, you wouldn't necessarily expect a huge number of responses between those times, even in a 2001 trolling nostalgia thread like this one. It's like an sfuk tribute act, bravo.

As much as BJJ is not for me it is however a martial art. In fact ANY combat form, be they for self defence, hand to hand (including certain weapons), or sport, from Cumberland wrestling, boxing and fencing, to aikido, kickboxing, and iaido, etc, etc, are all under the martial arts umbrella.

As i say, Martial Arts in simply an umbrella term for a number of styles of combat, just as kickboxing is an umbrella term used for a number of ring sports (full contact, freestyle, k1, thai, savate, lethwei, muay boran, blah blah)

    Obvious troll is obvious.

Sometimes for posts like this I wish the rep system was turned on - then we could use more of these:

Oh man how depressing, I remember the glorious days when this place was full of absolute idiots who would have treacted to that post as if it was serious. Then we all could have had some fun.
