Default Mason: I Think I Showed About 10% Of My Ability

Jack Mason talks to Ben Cartlidge about his win at Cage Warriors 47 in Dublin at the weekend.

Far from being content with a 'W', Mason is eager to show what he has in his locker and feels he didn't do himself justice.

Your superior wrestling came to the fore – did you think that would be the difference in this one?

I thought I’d be able to take him down when I wanted to be honest, and I think I did but I didn’t let my hands go. It’s one of my biggest assets that if I touch someone I will drop them or knock them out, and I just don’t do it enough. I’m going to try and change that.

This is your third win in a row. Would you say this is one of the more important ones seeing as it’s on Cage Warriors and it’s a really big stage?

It’s a massive stage. I think I put so much pressure on myself. I really, really wanted to get a win on Cage Warriors again and I did it, but not in the way I wanted to. I feel privileged to be on the show and I wanted to pay them back for it.
Look forward to seeing how fired up this makes his next time out!

No disrespect meant to Jack Mason; but I was expecting more of him in that fight.

He's 20/10 and was going against a 3/1 guy who only trains twice a week, and yet only just squeezed a victory.

you and me both mate! I'm not one for excuses so I wont bother making them but there were a few factors that I think affected my performance. I know I need a better showing next time, that's basically what the article is about!

That said Tommy Quinn is a very tough guy and I'm pretty sure he trained more than twice a week for the bout, and as far as I am aware he was 4-0 going into the fight.

Oh, yeah; you could tell he was tough as hell, and no doubt he did train more than twice a week for the fight camp for you.

Yeah, he was undefeated before fighting you, he's 3/1 SINCE you (from Sherdog's database, anyhow), my mistake!

I knew you were capable of more than was shown in that fight, I had you to finish the fight before it started and it looked like something wasn't quite right during the fight.

Looking forward to seeing your next fight and hoping to see you showing your true potential next time out, mate!

So where did this come from?

What's the source for that? As far as I'm aware he's a very good fighter, although he had a long layoff.

Cheers TheDictator your comments are much appreciated. Fair enough Jack may feel he had an off night but I feel the same from my own performance. Also people are forgetting that there aren't many people who are willing to fight someone as experienced as Jack with a few weeks notice and a vast difference in experience and still grinde the fight out to the distance and especially when he near polled my neck off with that guillotine in the 2nd. Again well done to Jack for getting the W and it was a pleasure to have had as good a scrap with him and I'm glad to get back in fighting again and can't wait for my next run out on Cage Warriors.
