That's because in order to work the counter u need to figure out timing. Sonnen didn't let him do that! And was on him like flys on shit! This will be the same... no distance, no counter, just TD, control and beat down!

When does it start matt?
Granted, Sonnen was trying to stop him from doing that, but every time i watch the fight it still looks like Silva is making a half hearted attempt at best. You might be right, (i don't think so) maybe Sonnen can close in and stop Silva from controlling the distance, but the last fight didn't show him doing that because Silva wasn't playing that game. Would you lead with reckless body kicks against a division one wrestler if you were trying to pick him apart from a distance?

Well, that seems pretty unlikely. On the other hand, in the 'Like Water' documentary he does discuss with Machida that they just want a brawl. And this right after being chastised by Dana ... and clearly something was demanded, though we will probably never know what. And then there is the statement to big Nog "I will submit him" ... Nog: "no! YOu will KO him", Silva: "No, I will submit him". But looking at the fight with or without these in mind and there is no denying two things 1) Sonnen does domnate. 2) Silva doesn't make much of an effort to avoid being on the ground.
There are moments in the fight when Silva does seem to want to keep it standing for a bit, but he still seems driven to be reckless, to rush it, and he's never playing his usual game. Of course I don't think he was 'playing' with Sonnen. But neither was he focused on playing to his own strengths, imposing his own game and forcing Sonnen to play it. He even seems at times to be in two minds. To be honest I don't give Sonnen the credit for the way that fight went. I really don't think in normal circumstances that he would do any better than Okami. (no I dont think Sonnens wrestling superiority over Okami makes the difference) I don't think he will do any better than Okami this time. If he does, I will give him credit for it. If Silva doesn't at least try to control the distance this time, he's stupid. We should at least see some straight punching! Its not like Sonnens head movement is great or anything.

Sonnen's head movement was enough to avoid punches whilst landing his own and scoring TD's at will.
Silva didn't seem himself because he was scared of the TD and didn't know whether or not to sprawl or keep his hands up and throw...
This will be a like for like fight except the submission. Anderson has no TD defence as he relies on his footwork and people being intimidated. That's not Chael Sonnen! He'll walk through Silva's strikes and unleash hell!

Silva has had a very long time to practice takedown defence since the last fight.
Sonnen face stopped quite a few. Not enough before the takedown, granted.
hmmm... I hadn't thought about it that way but i still think the opposite, I don't think he was scared of the takedown at all and not enough of Sonnens striking. He lead with his chin with his hands down several times, he didn't really use his footwork, and he threw more left hooks than jabs.
lol ... well .... thats a bold statement worthy of the man himself. I don't fancy his chances...Forrest tried that one!
