Default What was the very first UK MMA promotion?

Just been wondering if anyone knew who were the first promotion to put on an MMA show in the UK?
Either MMA as we'd know it today or one of the NHB vale tudo pre cursors.
I know Cage Rage were early 2000s but there must have been someone before that?

First MMA event was held by Lee Hasdell. Night of Samurai and Millenium Brawl.. Thats going back lol. Longest and most consistent running Promotion is Total Combat currently running from 2001 to the present day.

Night of the Samurai was kind of proto MMA (rope escapes etc). If you're going to include things like that then you could add the KSBO events in Nottingham in the late 90s.

Peter Mqueen had his 1st show in 1999 although it wasnt a total combat. It was held at the downhill club Sunderland.

Yeah, I believe so, someone else mentioned it but as it wasn't Total Combat I didn't mention it.

    Good looking out though.

I remember a few shows from about 1990, held in various locations, an empty swimming pool, a squash court and a lock up with no lights so we had to make a ring with cars and leave the lights on.

The fights in general were not great but a half decent french guy called Lyon Gaultier stood out, we started calling him Lion heart after he beat a scottish figher who always wore a kilt called Rab McTavish and an american lad called Chad Chadson. last time i seen him fight was against a big dude called Attila. If. Lion heart was around now he would be UFC champion no doubt about it
