In reality Sonnen was just another on a long list of 'victims' who most had given not a chance against the Spider, following the paths of Cote, Maia, Lietes etc. What Sonnen did differently to these guys was hype the fight, talked his smack and turned it into a money making blockbuster. Fortunately for him he did back it up somewhat in the first fight, before being exposed in the second and sunsquently shrinking off to another division and starting all over again with the smack talk to get a fight. He can't get the MW crown so might as well try and create another mega pay day in picking a fight with Jones.

Sonnen in reality should be just another decent level gatekeeper fighter that's on the list of Anderson's victims, but he's differentiated himself, built mega fights and gotten himself mass airtime, tv and sponsorship deals etc all because he's an expert in self publicising and smack talk.
He's just getting annoying now.

The first time he beat, Miller, Okami and Marquart to get the shot and the 2nd time he beat Stann and Bisping.

The guy earned his fights and is still better than most in the division

People hark on about the Bisping fight but it took the best Bisping to make it close against the worst Chael.

Okami seems more beatable because of the losses to Boetsch and Anderson but back then nobody wanted to fight him and Chael ragdolled him. Nobody wanted to fight Marquardt either and nobody, not even Phil Davis at 205, has handled Stann like Sonnen did.

He talks a very good fight but you can't get away from just who he's beaten. That's what matters.

^ Correct, I agree 100% about the Bisping fight.

The thing that annoys me about Chael is the decisions he makes, he showcases a great fight, battered Silva in the first fight before being caught, sloppy on his part but the second fight annoyed me, it was his fight to win all he had to do was wrestle Silva, first round, he comes out sticks to the game plan, 1/5 rounds in the books, comes out the second and tries throwing stupid fucking spinning elbows and shit, I so wanted Chael to win.

I'd have much preferred him to stay at Middleweight, fight 2 maybe 3 more times and earn another shot, you can argue that he's been beaten by the Champion twice but if he keeps knocking off the 5 guys below him he has the right to keep demanding fights with the Champion, I think he can beat Silva and he knows he can. Hopefully Weidman will get a shot because he'll take Silva down and beat him down bad a la Mark Munoz.

Chael never gets annoying and will never annoy me. If i am honest he is one of the few things that has kept me excited in the UFC recently.
