Meat what comp is yours? And fuck the system you don't need any that stuff we just want our kids to compete lol
This is the most fun i can have without going to jail
Any of the Scottish Grappling events are partially mine, so Glasgow Open, Edinburgh Open, Scotia Cup etc
I know what your saying re the disclosure stuff dude but with my job I can't afford to be implicated in a breach of child protection in any way as it would be a sackable offence.

Well, don't fuck the system then mate lol
Surely a lot of clubs have a lot of kids that want to compete, Amro had 13 kids today at 25quid each to enter, that's £325 for just Amros kids, is there no way some comp out there in Scotland could get the stuff needed to have kids there n use that the kids pay to get the extra stuff they need? Or is there just no one really interested in it?

for starters I wouldnt be charging £25 for kids, when we did run the 12-16 division with me reffing and our other enhanced disclosure guy on the table I only charged a tenner, as £25 for kids is too steep.
There may be a way I can get staff done for it but I'll need to look into it further.

Fair enough mate, 25 is hella lot of money especially since a few of the kids only got 1 or 2 matches, but knowin that there isn't a lot of kids comps out there they can charge 25quid cos with kids like mine who are constantly asking to do any type of comp to do with mma, they can charge it knowing people will pay. I'm sure if you charged a 10er you'd get even more kids to come.
Think vision in march should start the trend of getting kids on the mats!! They don't get started till about 10-1030 most times anyway, get kids there for 9 n get them on straight away!
Where you at Rob!! Lol

Just looked into it there, the PVG scheme doesnt need a person to be part of an umbrella body to allow them to work with what are classed as at risk groups. It is however £60 a head to get done so I'll be honest isnt looking cost effective just now, especially given the number of staff we use.

No sure who most of you are on here, but my name is Mark Turner. In case you've no heard of me I am from Fife and now live in Chicago Illinois in the USA where I have my academy. I am a Brasa Team blackbelt under Demian Maia and have been training BJJ in the states for over 12 years and I've competed at tournaments all over the world. Including the IBJJF Worlds, IBJJF PAN AMS, ADCC, Cbjje Pan Americano and NAGA to name a few.
In regards to the garbage being talked about on here about the Clarks and Manga....Ive got a few words to say.
First off....I was the one who reached out to the Clarks. None of them chased me down to try and start an affiliation to our team and get any type of promotion or anything. Since I contacted them I saw they want nothing more than to train and compete and do good by a sport and lifestyle I have dedicated my life towards. If I thought for a second that they were looking to "buy belts" or buy anything regarding jiu jitsu, there would have been no connection to them with me, my team (Brasa) or my friends. Demian Maia, Marcelo Manga, etc.
I've travelled to Scotland to train with these lads and travelled to Portugal and Brazil to compete with them. They are the real deal and they love jiu jitsu. They do not care about all the jealousy and politics that goes on with Scotland and bjj and train hard and just want to learn and get better.
They have competed all over the world and brought back medals at whatever belt level they have had. How in the world are you refuting their rank or their abilities. Swing by the gym all the medals are up on the wall for you to see.
Regarding Manga....Manga has been a good friend of mine for years. He has spent a lot of time in my academy training with me and my students and I thought there would be no one better to send to scotland for an extended period of time to help the guys at Team Unity and bring a top quality blackbelt to Scotland. Manga is a great guy with a heart of gold and the man honestly doesnt have a bad bone in his body. To even dream up the nonsense that Manga is selling belts to anyone is laughable. believe me....after being with the Brasa team and with Demian Maia since blue belt....WE DONT SELL BELTS! I can attest to this from experience.
The Clark lads are doing great things for BJJ in Scotland. I am proud of their work. When they bring someone in for a seminar, workshop etc instead of being jealous of it you need to get your backsides there to get some quality knowledge, and good training. Like it or not Scotland is a small fry in BJJ. Nothing like in Brazil or here in the States. Jump on a plane....travel, see what jiu jitsu is...where jiu jitsu is...you"ll be glad there are guys in Scotland like the Clarks who are trying to help develop jiu jitsu in Scotland while its in its infancy. They are not trying to "get rich" off jiu jitsu they love the sport and spend both their time and hard earned money bringing the best training to their students and themselves.
My advise to you is stop worrying about what other people are doing or not doing and get on the mat and train. jiu jitsu is YOURS. Do what you want with it. make it a hobby, use it to help you with your fitness, compete, use it to keep your mind sharp, or make it your lifestyle and your life. Its up to you. You cant fake jiu jitsu. the mat doesnt like. trophy cabinets dont lie.
See you guys on the mat!
Mark Turner
