David5 - thanks for the heads up.

I was looking at reading up/watching on more "catch wrestling" and techniques.

When it comes to b.s instructors I tend to try and search a well known website that tends to specialise in this area.. but wasn't aware of what you've informed me on.

There seems to be a lot of grey areas regarding catch wrestling and a few "interesting" supposed instructors out there - not uk based.

Can you recommend any catch wrestling books/dvds?

I understand Sakaruba was trained in catch wrestling.. and being a legit fighter with good skills and beating a few gracies has got me interested more in the style, again also I believe josh barnett and eric paulson also seem to base their sub skills on this ?

Gene Le Bell although a pro wrestler/stuntman/legit judoka is someone else I am interested in his teachings/style - which he's passed on to Gokor Chiv.

    Thanks again for any info.

Jake is certainly a business man but he puts out quality information and this book looks pretty interesting.

Look at his other books, lol... sells bs to people.

Isn't the catch book just a collection of other people's work?

    Hi

    Thanks for the replies..

So long as the material is good happy to buy it even if it's a collection but has good information in it, if it's rubbish will give it a miss...

Eric Paulson, Sakuraba and Josh Barnet are modern mma'ers with some catch background/training/whatever.

Anyone else worth mentioning/reading up on/dvd's etc.?

    Thanks again in advance.

Here's an article on the Shannon thing:

    http://unscientificwrestling.blogspo...ich-catch.html

Obviously loaded (given the name of the blog) but has some good info.

As mentioned, some of Josh Barnett's stuff is decent. Billy Robinson is obviously legit (though he's in business with Shannon). If you want to watch a fat dude get his limbs cranked then Tony Cecchine's are good.....but the techniques are low percentage for the most part, and there's a lot of 'show'.

The guys up at the Snake Pit are doing seminars etc again now, that would be worth checking out. Ian Bromley up in Stockport is a legit instructor. These guys are affiliated.

Edit: Man, if you get into googling some of this shit, there's tons of both sides trying to discredit each other.

This, Roy Wood knows his shit and is very successful in training actual wrestlers for freestyle competition rather than torturing fat dudes on DVD,fantasising about carnival booths and engaging in complex lineage wars.
