Thread: Vitor Belfort says hed stop TRT use for UFC title shot.

Default Vitor Belfort says hed stop TRT use for UFC title shot.

Vitor Belfort has told everyone that would listen that his four straight wins at middleweight (with one loss to Jon Jones at light heavyweight sandwiched in between) have earned him the right to another middleweight shot. Problem is, the last time Belfort got a shot at the middleweight title, he became quick highlight reel fodder for then champ Anderson Silva, losing by KO in the first round.

Belfort is no longer an apparently credible threat to Silva and champ Chris Weidman has his hands full with his rematch with "The Spider." So, "The Phenom" next fights at light heavyweight against Dan Henderson.

Belfort hasn't given up talking about middleweight title shots, though. In a recent interview with Brazilian outlet UOL, Belfort told that middleweight gold is still on his mind, and that he'd be willing to drastically change his fight preparation to get a shot at it.

Belfort routinely asks for therapeutic use exemptions (TUE) to received testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). Brazilian commissions have been granting the national hero TUEs but Nevada's commission executive director has gone on record as saying that Belfort would not be granted a TUE for TRT in the UFC's home state.

In 2006, Belfort tested positive for the banned substance, 4-hydroxytestosterone, after a fight in Nevada. Belfort maintains that he stays within allowable testosterone levels while receiving TRT under the supervision of doctors but told UOL that he'd give up the treatments if that made a difference to the UFC giving him a title shot.

"Ive already said that, if they agree with it, I would [stop receiving TRT]," he said. "No problem at all. If they want me to get there in a disadvantage, thats ok."
    Interesting.

"No problem at all. If they want me to get there in a disadvantage, that’s ok"
GTFO. I am a belfort fan, but seriously, that bit there is distasteful. just like chris weedman so eloquently put it 'if you have low testosterone, that's god saying that you have low testosterone'

it's not like other people with decent natural test level have an unfair advantage lolz

if you're a fighter: if you are weak, if you have low test, if you are not aggressive or lack fearlessness - you are not at a disadvantage, you are just not fucking cut out for it ffs

The chances are if you have low testosterone, you've been juicing in the past. As far as I'm concerned Belfort/Hendo/Sonnen etc are all cheats, they've just found a loophole to keep on cheating. I've always been a fan of Vitor, good guy and great fighter but I cant cheer for him anymore. As for being disadvantaged? Every fighter that these guys fight are potetuialy disadvantaged. I agree with Jimmy, if yuo've got low testosterone, go and fiond another job. Imo TRT is the scurge of MMA and destroys credibility of the sport when some of its biggest stars ae using it legally and within the rules!

IMO if he is willing to get off the TRT for a title shot against a higher step up in competition then he is/should be able to live without it when he's not fighting champions.

Where i disagree with Jonny Ninja in that anyone with low test has been on roids in the past, i do, in Vitor's case, think that if he does have low test than that is the reason for it.

I'm not saying all on trt have juiced in the past but I doubt very much that there are many that haven't. Also you produce less testosterone as you get older. This shouldn't mean these guys should be able to get an unfair advantage over younger fighters who aren't allowed to use a something that is a performance enhancer. If you need trt to fight, It's time to retire Nd find something else to do

If he fights without TRT, he will lose. End of.

Another reason why this sport is seen as a complete joke.

Its a shame really because MMA gets more bad press for substance use than any other sport when its rife in lots of sports. I have friends who play professional rugby and they're given 'supplements' that won't get them in bother. I know people who do athletics that are 'sitting out the season' next year to build up and 'improve'. The list goes on.

Dana said he's going to do his best to see TRT removed and hopefully when he/they do, it can move forward.
