Thread: Fitness Qualifications

    Default Fitness Qualifications

Following a conversation at work about circuit training I have begun to wonder what I would need to be able to run a circuit training session. Does anyone work in the fitness industry? Are there any recognised qualifications? Are there any to avoid?

I just did a quick google search and there are about a million different things you can do so if I do get off my arse and go for it I want to do one that is recognised.

I fobbed this idea off myself after seeing at least half of all the folks I know who are "qualified" and "personal trainers" earning minimum wage for their efforts and expensive courses.

Some councils may request you to earn their own approved course in order to teach on their establishment or property but outside of that, there is little restriction. In fact, quite a few folk do just fine earning personal training with nothing more than proven experience. Proven experience appeals more to me than a certificate if I was going to part with hard earned cash.

Thanks for the reply. Not really looking at a new career as such just using spare time (LOL @ spare time, I have 2 kids) to do something I think I would enjoy and maybe earn a little pocket money from.

There is so much competition these days for that kind of thing its got to the stage where you have totally over qualified guys running boxercise classes. Most of these guys know the human body inside out. Just start by trying to build up a client list maybe offer first lesson free and go from there.
