    Start your own blog. Get some writing on there and treat it as a portfolio. Any site that takes you without a proven ability to write well consistently probably isn't worth writing for.

    already started one, time to put the english degree to good use, will take some time to put together but i have really enjoyed putting the blog together, going to try and break away from the pack in terms of topics.

    There seems to be a gap in the market in terms of Eastern MMA. Not enough places cover Japan etc.

    hmm thats a good point, i can kind of see why being that not much has taken the place of pride fc, i know i for one would liie to know whats going on over there mma wise

    Unless you're just regurgitating press releases and writing up ONE FC events, it's very difficult to cover Asian MMA properly without living over there and/or having strong contacts. There's lots of cultural/political stuff in Asian MMA that put the rest of the scene to shame. Depends how deep down the rabbit hole you're looking to go, I guess...but there are already plenty of site doing press releases and results.
