Default getting tapped by blue belt

hi everyone, alot of you guys have done this for years and years.

my question is, I tried a new gym the other day, its very close to me, and I was at a loose end, ie been training mma for about a year now, Ive trained with some very good guys, and done a fair few privates (which pretty much all ive learnt has come from)
now, at this new gym, there is a bjj bue belt, and when I rolled with him, he just totaly fucked me up, I couldnt do anything with him, he always pulled gaurd on me, which at first I thought sweet, ill just get side mount, but no, he had a answer for everything, he tapped me all will, and with some crazy shit too. I didnt once tap him.
my buddy and trainer has told me this is totaly cool, and expected, but I was still left feeling like a looser, even though I went on to beat their semi pro 2-0 fighter in every aspect of grapling, and was totaly worn out after just spending 10 mins defending myself like a mad man.

what is everyones view, is this an exceptible thing for maybe even a pro fighter with a few years experiance, of should I be holding my own with this guy?

cheers....

You've been training MMA for about a year, he could have been training solely BJJ for 2-3 years (maybe 4 or 5 times a week).

Edit: or put it this way...

If you had rolled with me in March 2007 you would have been rolling with a no-stripe blue belt. If you'd rolled with me in April 2007 you would have been rolling with a purple belt. It's not all about colour of the belt.

What? Where's the surprise? What were you thinking? That you are a purple standard after 1 year of MMA?

do you have any very simple tricks for this guy, pretty much just to defend, as at the moment, I only have a few subs up my sleeve, and he will just laugh them away

no not at all, but he made me look like such a novice, I mean, I would have liked to have maybe thought about a semi pro fight at end of year, just to see where I stand, but after that... well, if I go against a good bjj guy, ill get stand little chance if it goes to the ground

Silly question.

Doing mma doesnt automatically mean you become great at bjj LOL

You can choose to be a pro fighter with zero ground skills as I'm sure many people have.

If you think that way you'll never do owt. Why not just train more whith the BJJ blue belt, improve and learn. Get some Private BJJ lessons etc.

I got taken to the fucking cleaners last night by a large purple belt who is very, very good. I learned a lot (mainly his knee on is horrible). No need to get disheartned as long as you learn from it it's all good.

yeah I did ask him every time he caught me where I was going wrong, and it was really simple stuff I was doing, but never been shown before, by the end of the night, I had had come away with something, but I just wanted to be sure that this was the norm, a blue belt is that good, its not that im that rubbish, thats more what I was aiming, at..
