Brum tops poll as Fighter of the Year
James Brum (pictured) has been named Fighter of the Year in the Cage Warriors Awards for 2012.
The English bantamweight picked up 49% of the votes cast here on the Cage Warriors website over the past two weeks, which was just 4% more than Jim Alers who finished in second place, while CWFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor was third.
Brum (10-2) is the only fighter to have won three CWFC bouts this year, having overcome Leandro Gontijo, Thomas Back and James Saville to climb to fourth place in the European bantamweight rankings.
The 25-year-old could clinch his fourth victory of 2012 in Dublin on New Year’s Eve when he takes on Moktar Benkaci at Cage Warriors 51.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have won this award and I want to thank my friends, family and team-mates for all their support at every step along the way,” said Brum.
“Winning something like this when the competition is so tough gives me a great sense of achievement, because Cage Warriors has had an abundance of superstars fighting on their cards this year.
“My goal is to finish 2012 unbeaten with four wins and prove I’m worthy of this accolade. Roll on New Year’s Eve.”

The meeting of Mohsen Bahari and Piotr Ptasinski at CWFC Fight Night 7 was voted Fight of the Year with 51% of the votes.
The pair battled it out for three exciting rounds at the New Boxing Arena in Jordan on September 1 before Bahari came away with a unanimous decision victory.
Both fighters will receive training gear and equipment from Caged Steel, who generously sponsored the Fighter of the Year category.
Kusch received 39% of the votes and will receive training gear and equipment sponsored by London Fight Store.
Hardiman picked up 44% of the votes, which earns him a five-month supply of V-Pack supplements from Ectomuscle, who sponsored the KO of the Year category.
Furness, who received 48% of the votes, will also be rewarded with training gear and equipment from category sponsors London Fight Store.
Having taken 42% of the votes, Glasgow’s Cage Warriors 50 was named Event of the Year.
