Champ Grimaud marches on in Bahrain
GAEL GRIMAUD remains the CWFC welterweight champion after making a successful debut defence of his title tonight against Jesse ‘JT Money’ Taylor at CWFC Fight Night 6 in Bahrain.
Taylor (20-9-0) dominated the opening rounds with some offensive grappling, but Grimaud (15-5-0) was superbly resilient in withstanding the submission attempts.
In the third round, Taylor began to tire and Grimaud looked for a rear-naked choke, before eventually locking in an armbar and forcing the tap from the UFC and Strikeforce veteran.
Earlier in the evening, Jim Alers and Ivan Buchinger looked particularly impressive in their respective wins over Matteus Lahdesmaki and Diego Gonzalez.
Also on the main card, Eddy Bengtsson scored a submission win against Jay Mortimore, while John Phillips returned to winning ways with his first ever submission victory over Tomas Penz.
On the preliminary card at CWFC Fight Night 6, there were wins for Alan Carlos, Olivier Pastor and Allan Love. Pastor picked up the KO of the night bonus, while the submission of the night was awarded to Grimaud.
